The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as "Coaching is a partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential".
Put simply, it is when we work together, as coach and client, through conversation, the coach asks the client insightful questions to illicit the client's thoughts. The client is then able to identify actions or solutions they decide to undertake to achieve their goal(s).
The use of coaches both within organisations and by individuals continues to rise. In an ICF survey over 55% of leaders reported using coaching services in 2019 and this number continues to grow. Many of them reported seeing positive impacts across their organisations, not just the people who participated in coaching programmes. This included 70+% increased work performance.
Session duration and course duration vary from client to client, depending on what seems suitable following our initial consultation.
Usually sessions can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
Together, we may decide you just need one session, you might want to have regular sessions initially, possibly fortnightly or monthly, and then move to less frequent, possibly every couple of months or so. Depending on what it is you want to work on, we may decide to work regularly together for a few months, and then you may decide your need for a coach has concluded. We will discuss and agree this at the initial consultation, and then adjust as necessary as we work together on achieving your goals.
Coaching is a great tool to support you through the majority of work situations, a number of which I've listed below, (this is guidance and not exhaustive!):
Coaching also provides the following benefits, to name but a few:
As with coaching, there are many definitions of mentoring. Similar to coaching, we work together in partnership talking through your concerns or issues within the workplace. However, unlike coaching, as part of mentoring, I will share my skills and experiences and offer learnings which you may want to adopt and adapt to suit you in your professional growth.
Similar to coaching, session timings can vary client to client, and can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
Depending on your preferred learning style, you may find it helpful to meet fortnightly or monthly. As mentoring is focused on long-term personal growth, then it may be that we continue to work together for a longer period of time, possibly over a year.
I will use my skills and experience of Programme and Portfolio delivery, gained in over 25 years in the Public Sector, delivering both organisational/business transformations and digital, software development and delivery. I provide mentoring support to include the following:
These vary depending on the client needs to achieve their goal(s) and therefore how regularly we meet and the length of time we decide we will work together, we will discuss this in more detail during our complimentary consultation.
There is a discount for self-funded clients.
I also offer Pro-Bono arrangements for some clients.
